Health IT Patient Safety Action and Surveillance Plan for public comment

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) today issued the Health IT Patient Safety Action and Surveillance Plan for public comment.

The Health IT Safety Plan leverages the patient safety programs of HHS agencies and private organizations to use health IT to improve patient safety and the safety of health IT. To address health IT and patient safety, a shared responsibly among the government and industry and among clinicians and health IT developers is needed to support a culture of safety.

The Health IT Safety Plan may be viewed at http://www.healthit.gov/policy-researchers-implementers/health-it-and-patient-safety. All public comments must be submitted by February 4, 2013, 11:59 pm EST, to ONC.Policy@hhs.gov.
